GET WELL SOON, KENTHUNG!

Bookmark and Share

On Tuesday (January 19, 2010) a COP’s team left for Agro Khatulistiwa Amusement Park in a dark and drizzling day. Revalino and Seto were met by the park’s administrator who liaised them to Kenthung’s cage soon subsequently. The orangutan looked weak and passive because of swollen cuts on his fingers, which were obviously visible. The injury may have been taken place after two long tailed macaques had came into his cage and bitten him in the fingers. The macaque may have sneaked into Kenthung’s cage through a big hole upon a broken partition set up between their cages. The hole apparently had become an access for them to interact to each other.

An animal keeper of Agro Park opened the cage’s door and carried Kenthung out. Meanwhile Revalino, assited by Edy, prepared drugs which had been previously bought for Kenthung. Afterwards they began cleaning up his cuts on his left fingers with alcohol carefully and smeared antiseptic cream gently on them. His right hand at a glance looked just OK and had no visible cuts. However Revalino found it swollen and purulent just as soon as he palpated it.

The COP’s team recommended that the park’s administrator should relocate the macaques into another cage. The relocating process was not an easy job indeed, as the two macaques were very aggressive. After completing the relocation, the animal keeper cleaned up the cages. They were left for a while to become dry and were sprayed with liquid antiseptic afterwards.

The cleaner cages will, hopefully, allow Kenthung to get well sooner.
