TORI WILL HAVE A GOOD LIFE

Bookmark and Share

Do you still remember Tori the smoking orangutan? Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) met her in 2009 at Taman Satwa Taru Jurug (TSTJ), Surakarta, Central Java.

On 28th of May 2012, Tori will stop smoking, because starting from that day, COP and TSTJ are working together to improve the orangutan welfare at TSTJ. Not only that, we will make enrichment for 3 other orangutans at TSTJ, namely Didik, Yeti and Doni.

TSTJ’s commitment is a good start for the four orangutans. Their enclosure and sleeping cages will furnish with enrichments, such as hammock and also ropes tied to the poles so the orangutans could swing to express their behavior as well as in their habitat.

Besides to improve the orangutans in a cage, COP and TSTJ will guarantee the orangutans health. Previously, the orangutan had not been examined, but the veterinarian will check them soon. So, if there are sick orangutans, so they can be handled properly and quickly.

TSTJ and COP are also committed to protect Tori and her friends from rogue visitors who give them cigarettes. Tori should be totally stopped from smoking, and the visitor could not easily give them cigarettes or snacks that are to supposed to be eaten by orangutan.

This is because; the four orangutans have rights to live a better life despite being inside the cage. Besides TSTJ, in the near future, COP will also help Bali Zoo to improve the orangutan welfare.
